Crash Course: Copy Editing (Summer 2025)

$210.00

The Wordshop is publishing a book, and we need a crack team of editors to get it ready for production.

Absolutely no experience is necessary. The high school copy editing team will learn everything they need to know during their crash course, two-week, six-day camp and through some brief, out-of-class assignments. They’ll work together to:

  • create a Wordshop style guide and a title-specific style guide

  • apply the style guides and the Chicago Manual of Style to the existing manuscript (a pick-your-own-path novel written by a group of Wordshop writers)

  • read for grammar, punctuation, and usage errors

  • identify continuity errors in plot, character, and setting

  • proofread the final manuscript before it is sent to the printer.

This class is a fantastic opportunity for any high school student interested in a career in publishing, journalism, law, or media.

Open to rising 9th–12th graders, as well as graduating seniors. There will be some work—not a ton—outside of class.

6 Sessions, 120 minutes

Dates: June 4–6 AND June 11–13, 10 a.m.–noon (that’s a total of six days, Wednesday through Friday, over two weeks)
