Songwriting for Beginners: Middle & High School Lyrics Writing Class (Summer 2025)
Let's band together to study why the words work in popular songs. Each week, we'll do close readings of songs from punk rock to rap, Broadway to Nashville, and indie rock to the Top 40. Then, we'll try lyrics-writing exercises with the goal to write one song or to write a review of one song. Musical training absolutely not necessary.
Note: This class is taught by Mr. Justin, Mrs. Kristin’s husband and favorite writer. He’s a bona fide music critic with dual degrees in journalism and English (plus an MBA. What a catch!). He works during the day, so this class is NOT a camp. It meets once a week in the evening.
Open to rising 7th–12th graders.
4 sessions, 90 minutes
Wednesdays, 7:00–8:30 p.m.
Dates: July 16, July 23, July 30, August 6
