Cursive (Fall 2024)

$110.00

Is cursive dead? Not according to the Kansas Board of Education. Per state guidelines, kids are supposed to master cursive between third and fifth grade. That’s a great idea…in theory. In reality, teachers usually have to weigh which non-necessities they can cut to make time for foundational instruction in reading and math. Cursive is often the first to go.

Here’s the good news: modern cursive isn’t that hard to learn, especially once you already know how to print. Mrs. Kristin’s cursive instruction is based on the Palmer method, which focuses on basic shapes and arm movements while building strength and stamina. We’re not striving for perfect, copy-plate writing; the goal is to help each student develop their own legible style of cursive. As they learn to write cursive, they’ll also learn how to read it. Grandparents everywhere, rejoice! Your family letters (and legacies) won’t be lost to the ages.

Class price includes a $10 supply fee. Open to 5th graders and middle schoolers. (If a high schooler would like to enroll, please ask!) Lefties welcome!

4 sessions, 60 minutes

Tuesdays, 4:30–5:30 p.m.

October 15, 22, 29; November 5
