Songwriting for Beginners (Fall 2024)

$150.00

Let's band together to study why the words work in popular songs. Each week, we'll do close readings of songs from punk rock to rap, Broadway to Nashville, and indie rock to the Top 40. Then, we'll try lyrics-writing exercises with the goal to write one song or to write a review of one song. Musical training absolutely not necessary. Class is open to middle- and high schoolers.

Note: This class is taught by Mr. Justin, Mrs. Kristin’s husband and favorite writer. He’s a bona fide music critic with dual degrees in journalism and English (plus an MBA. What a catch!).

4 sessions, 90 minutes

Mondays, 7:00–8:30 p.m.

Dates: September 30, October 7, October 21, October 28 (** no class on October 14 **)
